Wild Lapland – Winter Husky Adventure Week

A Journey Back to Yourself — in the Heart of Lapland’s Wilderness

When winter wraps Swedish Lapland in sparkling white and silence becomes so deep you can hear your own breath, a different kind of adventure begins — one that touches something inside you.
This week invites you to step into the life of the sled dogs — loyal, strong-hearted companions (or “Superstars,” as our musher Morgan fondly calls them) — who run with pure joy through the endless Arctic wild.

Here at Sandsjön, where sky and snow seem to meet, you’ll see, feel, and understand what freedom really means:
the honest reflection of the dogs’ social world, the soft whisper of sled runners over frozen lakes, the steady rhythm of paws and breath, and the crackle of a campfire beneath the dancing northern lights.
Every mindful breath draws you closer — to the dogs, to nature, and to yourself.

🐾 Your Week – Seven Days of Nature, Dogs & Discovery

Day 1 – Arrival & Breathe In the North

After your journey to Sandsjögården, take a moment to simply arrive. Step outside, fill your lungs with crisp winter air, and feel the stillness of Lapland settle around you.
Your cozy lakeside cabin offers warmth, peace, and a place to truly unwind.

Day 2 – Kennel Eduventure Day

Ease into the world of sled dogs. Together we’ll explore everything from dog behavior and equipment to life in the kennel.
You’ll experience the deep respect, care, and knowledge behind every part of working with these animals — and soon become part of this everyday rhythm yourself.
Many guests say this day changes the way they see dogs — and nature.

Day 3 – Your choice, your programme

Today is yours to shape. After breakfast, you can join us on an exhilarating snowmobile adventure, venturing deep into the last wilderness of Europe. Out there, we'll switch off the engines and simply take in the silence, allowing the landscape and the stillness to unfold around us.

Or perhaps you'd rather explore on snowshoes, accompanied by a sled dog at your waist. At a slower pace, you'll wander through snow-covered forests and open landscapes, accompanied only by the dogs' gentle panting and the soft crunch of their paws in the snow.

Or maybe today is simply your day to do nothing at all.

The choice is entirely yours.

Before dinner, warm yourself by the campfire or relax in the lakeside sauna. And if you're lucky, the Northern Lights may begin to dance above you – a moment you'll never forget.

Tonight, we'll enjoy an early bedtime, giving you the chance to fully rest, recover, and gather fresh energy for the two days of adventure that lie ahead.

Days 4 – Husky Expedition & Overnight on a Remote Island
After a hearty breakfast, we travel downstream along the frozen Vindelälven River to Morgan’s base.

There, we pack the gear for our overnight tour. Amidst excited barking and wagging tails, you help harnessing the dogs, get to know your team, prep the sled – and the adventure begins.

The route takes you across frozen rivers, through quiet forests and open moorlands – an unforgettable experience combining adventure, mindfulness, and deep connection with nature. After a while, you’ve found your rhythm on the sled, allowing you to relax into the movement and the vast landscape around you. Notice the details – the dogs’ gait, their wagging tails, the sound of runners on snow. Maybe the sun glistens on the ice, maybe soft snowflakes drift through the air.

In the late afternoon, we arrive at the secluded island with a small log cabin where we’ll spend the night.

First, we care for the dogs – feeding and settling them for the night. Then, we turn our attention to ourselves: heating the cabin, preparing dinner, and gathering by the fire.

If the skies are clear, the northern lights may paint the night in shimmering colours – a memory you’ll never forget.

Day 5 – Sledding from the Island back to the Wild Lapland Kennel
After a well-earned night’s rest, another wonderful day with our furry friends awaits.

We rise early to wake the dogs and give them their breakfast before preparing our own. Once everyone is ready, we pack up, harness the dogs, and begin our return journey.

Today’s route winds mostly through quiet forests back to the kennel.
When we arrive, we thank our dogs with cuddles and snacks, help Morgan unpack the gear, and say a heartfelt goodbye to our loyal teammates.

A transfer takes us back to Sandsjögården.

The afternoon is yours to relax – maybe in the lakeside sauna, or simply enjoying the peace and stillness on the frozen Sandsjön.

Day 6 – Your day off
After breakfast you decide what feels good for you today. The day is entirely yours.

In the evening, we gather once more for a relaxed farewell dinner at the lodge – sharing stories, photos, and memories from the past days in the wild.

Day 7 – Farewell & Fresh Perspective

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye — to the dogs, the silence, and the boundless landscape.
But what you take home is lasting: a sense of arrival — in the heart of winter, and within yourself.

🏠 Your Stay – Cozy, Sustainable, and Genuinely Scandinavian

You’ll stay in a traditional Swedish cabin with one or two bedrooms, eco bathroom, open living space, and kitchenette. Wi-Fi is available — though most guests quickly forget about it.

After a day outdoors, the wood-fired lakeside sauna is waiting. And if you dare, take a dip through the ice — a rush of pure life.

Our kitchen nourishes you with wholesome, homemade full-board meals — locally sourced, sustainable, and with a touch of Switzerland and Asia. Food made with love, from the heart.
